Viewing Notes

It was great to revisit this. My first viewing was when it closed out Fantastic Fest and the cast were there (save Russell who’d injured his leg the day before if I recall correctly). The tight, well-written and plotted script combined with a seasoned cast of professional actors does a lot to carry this minimalist horror western forward. Richard Jenkins gets the best lines. The violence is sporadic, but when it comes it explodes onto the screen in quick, gory bursts, and then just as quickly fades away. The foley work is especially gruesome. It really makes you feel the impact of the violence.
