Dr. Génessier, along with accomplice and laboratory assistant Louise, kidnaps young women and brings them to the Génessier mansion. It was great to revisit this classic French horror film, this time from the BFI region 2 disc I bought at FOP in London when we were there in December of 2021.
It’s always fun to revisit a film that features an actor you now know more about and have seen in other films since the last time you watched it. Alida Valli, who plays the doctor’s assistant (in both kidnappings and surgical experiments) here is also in Hitchcock’s THE PARADINE CASE which I only just watched recently for the first time. She is of course also the formidable Miss Tanner who runs the dance academy in Argento’s SUSPIRIA.
