Viewing Notes

I tried to watch this earlier in the week but was too tired to pay attention; and this is a movie that requires your attention. It’s such an odd, hypnotic movie (no pun intended) with some great shot compositions where the criminal acts often play out in front of a static medium shot, which is more horrific for its observational style. I still feel this film is a critique of the isolation and over-emphasis on work in Japanese urban society at the time, which is probably just as prescient now as it was then.
