Viewing Notes

This should be, and is, the perfect Summer blockbuster movie that has tons of fun stunts and a great deadpan comedy performance by Gosling. I love the dog in this and all the movie-inside-the-movie stuff. The stunts (both the movie-within-a-movie stunts and the movies stunts) are so much fun to watch. The movie doesn’t treat the audience like idiots but at the same time you don’t really have to engage your brain too much either. Just sit back, watch and have a great time.

People keep saying that no one remembers the original series it’s based on, which I don’t think is true. But even if you don’t, you don’t need to know anything about the original show, or even that this movie is in any way related to it, to enjoy the movie. In fact they don’t really make any great effort in the trailer or advertising to link it to the original show.

I keep seeing people talking about how it’s a failure because it didn’t meet opening weekend expectations. I know the landscape has changed, but goddamn, can we give a movie more than four days before declaring it a flop?
