I’m a sucker for dumb shark movies, which is kind of redundant because most shark movies are dumb. This one starts out interestingly enough before going full blown bozo in the final act. I wish they’d have spent more time building up the why and honestly, they could have left the cute but stupid eco warriors out of this completely, and had more room to science some shit. The way the mayor of Paris is portrayed reminded me of Devlin/Emmerich’s GODZILLA. Probably not a good thing.
I will say this though, it looks pretty good. There are some great shots, especially underwater. And I thought Bérénice Bejo did a nice job with what she had to work with.
