Viewing Notes

An interesting trio of yakuzasploitation films by godfather of J-exploitation, Teruo Ishii. Basically the Hershel Gordon Lewis of Japan. These are set in three different eras, the most interesting (in part because there aren’t many movies set in this era) of which is the Taisho era which dates roughly from 1912 to 1926. Weird seeing yakuza in traditional dress but with light bulbs and street lamps.
