Nice to see a good crowd for this on Superbowl Sunday no less. Going to a movie that portrays real events under a corrupt right wing government in Brazil in the 1970s on one of the biggest sports days in America feels like an act of resistance to be honest.
This was a powerful, but heartbreaking, experience. Very much like THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG, this focuses on the very real impact of living in a country controlled by right wing authoritarians has at the family level. While SACRED FIG is a fictional story set in a very real time and place, I’M STILL HERE is based on a biography written by the youngest son of Rubens Paiva who was disappeared by the military dictatorship that controlled Brazil in the ‘70s.
