It’s always great to see Ti Lung kicking ass. Here he plays the man in the middle of warring factions in a town in a variation of the YOJIMBO story. The great Ku Feng plays the evil villain Meng Er Da. He’s so good in these roles. This also makes Ku Feng my fourth most popular actor of all time. Hell yeah.
I like that Ti Lung is paired with his student, played by Wong Yu. They make a great pair fighting primarily with poles to great effect.
The camera work is noticeably smooth too. Apparently this is the first Shaw Brothers movie to use a steadicam, which I believe came into use in 1974-75 and probably started making serious in roads by 1979 when this film was released.
This is my 41st movie starring Ti Lung, but I’m about to watch a shit ton more.
