Viewing Notes

I went in expecting something more akin to Ayers’ and Statham’s last collaboration, THE BEEKEEPER, and instead got a weird, fractured mix of Chicago location shooting, London-as-Chicago scenes, and overstuffed theatrically staged scenes that don’t all work together really well. There are so many odd, incongruous choices in this. All the staged scenes are weird and overly-theatrical. For instance the first time Statham visits his father-in-law’s house to pick up his daughter, his father-in-law, who is a doctor (of what is never explained) is having an Alice in Wonderland-themed party on the front lawn (also never explained).

The Russian mob bad guys are like a gang of cartoon characters. There are so many plot points that just dead end into nothing, it’s perplexing.

All of that was so distracting that it kept me from just sitting back and basking in the insanity of it all. I think I need to see it again to form a true opinion.
