I’m all for more movies featuring Viola Davis in action roles, and the action scenes in this are pretty fun, but the rest feels so cynically stupid that it ceases to be art and just becomes commerce.
Am I wrong to hold stuff like this to a different standard than something equally as stupid like Invasion U.S.A.? At least Invasion U.S.A. had heart and embraced its absurdity by just plunging forward with it matter-of-factly. It’s not trying to be anything other than exactly what it is: a mid-tier, B-movie actioner.
