Viewing Notes

Shô Aikawa and Jô Shishido play a couple of contract killers who stumble into a mystery involving four million dollars and set off to track it down. This is a bit of a buddy cop movie where the buddies aren’t cops, and a police procedural where those doing the procedure part aren’t cops. A bit slow moving but an interesting take. Shishido is great as the older, wiser hitman to Aikawa’s more violence prone youthfulness. They make a great pair.

Yasuharu Hasebe, the director, has quite the interesting body of work. I’d love to see a massive box set of his films, or at least more of them getting single releases. We’ve gotten so much stuff in recent years but there’s still a goldmine of movies out there waiting for the boutique treatment.
