Movie number five in the marathon and a late addition as a substitute to replace ASYLUM, which Jay played during his marathon earlier in the month. Sourced from the new, 4K release from Vinegar Syndrome. This came in the week of Halloween, just in time. This is a very gauzy, soft focus film set in the 1930s and 1950s, with a lot of scenes taking place at a drive-in theater owned by the titular character, played by Piper Laurie, coming off her Oscar-nominated performance as the mother in CARRIE. The character of Ruby has echoes of SUNSET BOULEVARD’s Norma Desmond in it. It’s always great to see Stuart Whitman.
HINT: It’s her 16th birthday: time for some death at the drive-In.
