Aided by Are, a boy slave, One Eye slays his captor and together he and Are escape, beginning a journey into the heart of darkness. Viewing Notes

I loved Refn’s Bronson and have heard good things about his Pusher trilogy. That, coupled with the recent raves about his latest effort, Drive, piqued my curiosity enough to give Valhalla Rising a try, despite the reactions I’d seen from other movie peeps on Twitter.

I’m still not sure how much I liked it. It’s really well filmed; a very stark movie that relies on some very visceral violence, great establishing shots and beautiful scenery.

I will unabashedly say that I loved Mads Mikkelsen in this. Most people, including me, know him best for his role as the Bond villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. He’s also in Pusher, which makes me want to see that movie even more now.
