Kirby Dick’s provocative documentary investigates the secretive and inconsistent process by which the Motion Picture Association of America rates films, revealing the organization’s underhanded efforts to control culture. I knew the MPAA was a fucking joke long before this documentary, so watching this didn’t really make me angry as much as it just reconfirmed my opinion.

I felt the documentary was at its best when Dick was interviewing directors who has gone up against the ratings board for their films. Their descriptions of the surreal experiences they had gave more insight into the mechanations than any of the investigative reporting portions did.
