Viewing Notes

Although this is obviously focused on Claudette Colbert, I found her performance only just above average. Don Ameche really steals the show as her philandering, murder-intentioned husband. Bruce Cummings turns in a great fast-talking performance whose character you initially think is a throwaway or a foil.

The climactic shootout and staircase scenes are classic film noir, gorgeously shot in stark black and white and filled with tension.
