Overview

I heard a lot of mixed reviews on this, and even my kids and wife felt it was merely ok, but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Yes, it desperately wants to be a Bourne movie, but I don’t think that’s a bad goal to set for oneself when you’re an action movie in this century.

Speaking of action, the action sequences are great here. The hand-to-hand combat is visceral and the one main car chase scene ranks up there with the best! In fact, I’d add this to my best car chase movies list with no problem.

In retrospect, I find myself wishing that Denzel Washington’s character was more amoralistic and nasty than he turned out to be. That, coupled with the obviousness of one of the key plot points, serves to lower the overall effect of the film. Still, a movie starring Ryan Reynolds where he didn’t annoy me is a win in my book.
