Black comedies are, in my opinion, one of the most difficult genres for a director to pull off well. It’s a balancing act and often a movie tilts more heavily in one direction or the other and the whole thing feels off-kilter.
I’m happy to say that Some Guy Who Kills People manages to pull off the balancing act for the most part. I really enjoyed the blend of humor and gore; it all just felt right.
Most of the credit has to go to the actors, especially the trio of Kevin Corrigan, Barry Bostwick and Karen Black. Corrigan plays the straight guy here, and does a great job of being both sympathetic and menacing. Bostwick and Black are brilliant with their dry, deadpan humor. Between the three of them they make this movie into something special.
