This feels like Carpenter’s low point to me. I wanted to like it more than I did, and certainly there are moments that are worthwhile; but overall, it felt like a choppy, badly edited mess of a movie. Even worse, it felt like a cigarette commercial, with Kirstie Alley conspicuously lighting up in practically every scene, even though she obviously wasn’t a smoker.
In general, her character really bugged me. I’m not sure if it was just the script or her acting, but her character felt like a cardboard cutout with no really weight to it. It really undermined the rest of the film for me.
