Love in Sampan is the tale of an unfortunate young woman named Kiu. As she explains in the opening narration, she has known three men: Wah (a boy who worked in her family’s shop), Chuen Wang (a local gang boss whom she is compelled to marry) and Man (a university student). But when she accidentally witnesses her best friend, Kim, fooling around with a man, Kiu’s sexual curiosity is truly aroused ... and begins to grow.

Viewing Notes
My final HK flick via Instawatch before it expires… and another Cat3 flick. I don’t know much about HK cinema but it seems the early 90s was a boon for Cat3 films. This is one is better than most despite the sexual abuse, torture and rape. Yeah, surprising. More of coming of age and sexuality. Enjoyed it quite a bit for it’s explicit steaminess but wished there wasn’t that voiceover end revealing how it turns out for the survivors.
