This 1959 film-noir take on “Othello,” filmed in Puerto Rico, stars Mari Blanchard as flirtatious Jean, who marries an older man, plantation owner Don Luis, for financial security and finds herself falling for his virile foster son, Carlos. Fearing that Jean will inherit Luis’s money, his greedy cousin, Miguel, poisons the bridegroom against his new wife, informing him about her passion for another.

Viewing Notes
Grimy little drama set in sweaty Puerto Rico featuring a better than average sidekick role for Lee Van Cleef. He actually gets to do more than make sideways quips. Pretty good story too and plenty of character arcs for a short runtime of 75 minutes. Characters betray each other only to fall back into alliances. Good stuff. Different role for Angel Eyes and I like it. (Film #5 in my LVC project!)
