I’m 50/50 on these HK/Chinese nonsensical comedies (mo lei tau) and Stephen Chow is the master of these. This one is a classic example of my general feelings on these films; I’m not crazy about much of the humor yet the action set pieces are wonderful.
Took me about an hour to get into this once I found my way w/the style and comedy beats in the film. Lots to love and appreciate. The expert commentary is quite good and worth the listen so I bought the collection (both RT films) on Amazon today for cheap. I’m looking forward to the sequel since they set up Brigitte Lin as the Dragon Gang leader.
