Bubba Ho-tep tells the “true” story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his “death,” then missed his chance to switch back. He must team up with JFK and fight an ancient Egyptian mummy for the souls of their fellow residents.

Part of the JOHN DIES event w/Don Coscarelli in person was a double feature. I selected today b/c the second film was Bubba Ho-Tep, which I haven’t seen on the big screen and have been wanting to revisit. (tomorrow night is Phantasm II which I saw at The Massacre in October)
Really loved seeing this projected and it looked immaculate. I honestly thought it was a DCP until later I could more specs on the print. Simply gorgeous. Very happy to see this in the theater and with a crowd. Film is even better than I remembered w/great performances by Campbell and Ossie Davis. Totally forgot that Reggie Bannister was in this (and the crowd applauded at his first appearance).
First two thirds are outstanding. I think the last act drags a little but the showdown is fun and also tragic. Great character moments between the two leads are what makes this movie so wonderful.
