Always wanted to see this b/c of Lorre (his first American film) but I had no idea this was a remake of The Hands of Orloc, which I really like. Initially I thought this was paying homage to that film but quickly I realized it was the same film, albeit a remake.
In some ways it’s better than the original simply for placing Peter Lorre in the role as the mad doctor. He exudes the creepiness necessary to make it work so well here. Also great to have Colin Clive as Orlac. Overall a pretty good flick and a nice viewing on Warner Archive Instant but I still prefer the original German silent film.
