Clearly this is not a good film so I have a hard time giving a higher than 5. However, this is totally my kind of film. In other words, I could watch these kinds of films all day. And I’d even rewatch this one. But this is a good example on my continual challenge rating films; do I give a more favorable 6 b/c I enjoyed it or give it an honest 5, which is still way better than the IMDb rating. But I don’t want to be misleading b/c I’m sure very few would find this as entertaining as I do.
Plus it stars one of my favorite ex-MTV personalities, Kari Wuhrer, a longtime TV crush too. Toss in Jennifer Rubin and B-grade Miles O’Keeffe… and now you’re singing my song. I appreciate how earnest everyone is knowing that this is not a great film as they are filming it. Yet they still go for it with some crazy explosions and an extended underwater scene w/Ms. Wuhrer.
Rubin and Leo Rossi really lay on the supervillain schtick with an added incestuous subplot. Then you have the cheeseball government back on land in a one-room set monitoring the crisis unloading in space. Yeah, this is bad film but damn do I ever love it. Because of this I think I’m gonna head down a mini-Wuhrer project since she’s been in so many beauties like this one. Vivid, anyone?!
