Viewing Notes

My third film of my second day at SXSW. Also my second film in Vimeo Theater at ACC, which I’ve grown to like the bleacher type seating and sound. Knew nothing and had no expectations going in other than seeing the cast, which I liked. Plus needed to stay at the Vimeo to line up for Grow Up, Tony Phillips afterward.

So after sliders at South by South Bites across the street I was able to get a ticket to a fairly packed first screening of this mainstream British marriage comedy (was already released in the UK last month and not sure why this was a SXSW selection) by the writer of Borat.

Some of the humor is rather blue which makes for a few laughs but I found the two leads to be rather uninteresting compared to the strong supporting cast and characters. Faris looks odd here but she’s pretty great. As are Baker and Driver. Not a bad film but just not a film for me. Not a fan of anti-marriage but we can work it out depictions. Byrne is super fine but her character is a bore. Unfortunate but watchable for everything but the leads and salty main storyline. My second least favorite of the seven films I saw (or tied for last).
