Picked up another 4-pack of JCVD movies for $5 to add to my prospective titles to watch for my JCVD project. This is another one from recent years that I hadn’t even heard of until getting this DVD. And interestingly enough, Van Damme is portraying a fairly straightforward character, i.e. not a badass martial artist.
I suppose this DTV film was a vehicle for Van Damme to showcase his “acting” chops and I gotta say, he’s pretty good as the dirty cop turn good cop. Stephen Rea is his nemesis here and serviceable. I’d consider giving this a higher rating based on JCVD’s performance but the story is lackluster. Probably why he shines here. But seeing this makes me wish Van Damme would get a serious role with a good screenplay. I think he can do more than kick ass.
