Watched for my LoveHK top 200 project. One I’ve been wanting to see based on its generally high accolades but I gotta say, it’s just okay. Better than average, sure, but the overly complicated plot does it no good. The heart of the film is the dynamic between Brigitte Lin and Maggie Cheung. Both are really wonderful together and with individual character moments. This movie is pure fun just watching them. Donnie Yen as the supreme evil eunuch is okay but he doesn’t get to do much until the final battle, which is off the chain. Good watch but I feel as though it could have been a better film.
