Viewing Notes

Giving this a marginal 7/10 because I enjoyed the ride. A very silly ride that just gets more and more silly as it goes along. Sometimes it’s good to have a silly ride every so often. This one’s entertaining, looks great and features Vincent Cassel in another meaty role.

Give Rosario Dawson props… not for baring it all but for absolutely nailing that voice and rhythm of a hypnotist. If you’ve listened to relaxation or meditation tapes you know what I’m talking about. There’s a certain cadence and repetition required to match a vocal tone. Dawson does this very well.

McAvoy is serviceable but not much a leading man here but he’s fine to keep the story going. Despite its silliness that was the part that gave me the most problems. Whose story is this? Sure, we think it’s McAvoy’s but is it? I could make an argument for both Cassel and Dawson. The audience gets played and sympathizes with potentially the wrong character. But none of these characters are very nice.
