Overview

Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger’s charm and audacity endear him to much of America’s downtrodden public, but he’s also a thorn in the side of J. Edgar Hoover and the fledgling FBI. Desperate to capture the elusive outlaw, Hoover makes Dillinger his first Public Enemy Number One and assigns his top agent, Melvin Purvis, the task of bringing him in dead or alive.

Viewing Notes

Finally caught up with Johnny Depp’s turn as John Dillinger in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies (2009), a film I tried to see last year but never could work it out. Now having seeing it can’t say I missed it. It’s a lot of just okay. Bale was weak but was great to see Stephen Lang and even better to see Don “The Predator” Frye! Still not a must-see but a decent watch nevertheless. The shot-on-digital didn’t bother me.
