Viewing Notes

Really enjoyed this film. Straightforward from the start but a nice way of handling the material. Motherhood and revenge. Two great things that go together… in Korean cinema. Would make a good double with Mother.

Downside to this screening was the hour & 15min drive to get to Facets on a late Saturday afternoon. Incredible. I left a little earlier than usual and still arrived 1 minute before the movie started. Had to bullshit park at the McDonalds and walk the last leg because traffic was bottlenecked on Fullerton. Will need to rethink any upcoming screenings there.

The second downside was the Blu-ray (or DVD?) they were projecting looked like shit. Don’t think it was the Oppo player they use. But all the darks and bright whites were washed out like you’d expect in a 1st gen DVD release from 10+ years ago. Super disappointed to see that in a theater, esp. Facets. Very distracting b/c much of the movie is dimly lit. Took away from the my experience (part 1).

The third downside (part 2) was the asshole women and her husband who both felt compelled to talk throughout the entire screening. The asshole women was particularly bad as she’d gasp really loudly and talked back to the subtitles in her normal voice. My continual “shushing” didn’t phase her. So. Fucking. Annoying. Thought I was gonna lose my shit on her. Planned to confront her when it was over but she split before the credits rolled. Should note that they brought in a grocery bag of food which they rifled through making more noise. I think I’m equally mad that she didn’t give me the opportunity to go off on her at the end.

Yep, great film totally soured by that experience.
