Viewing Notes

Due to the unexpected closing of the Portage Theater last Friday, Northwest Chicago Film Society was faced with a major problem with this screening. Fortunately MBT stepped up at the last minute to present this week’s feature film, a pristine restored print of Portrait of Jason. First time this print has been screened.

Before this week, this movie was not even on my radar but I knew it was something not to miss. Totally fascinating one-man show of Jason Holliday as captured by Shirley Clarke and her boyfriend in a single room. Amazing performance that blew me away. Is he acting or telling true stories of his life? Does it matter? This could easily work as a live stage performance. Simply fascinating and worth seeing. Easily a top discovery of 2013.
