Why am I not surprised this is listed as “horror” at IMDb? It’s not horror at all. What this is a fantasy drama with a little comedy about how teens deal with grief. Not sure if this is based on a manga but it plays that way. Actually it appears that it’s adapted from Tatsuhiko Takimoto’s novel of the same name. Still has a very manga feel.
Can’t say this is a great movie but it sucked me in with the well written characters and desire to overcome grief esp. when it manifests into a chainsaw wielding monster. It’s warm and heartfelt. Love that feeling.
And damn, Megumi Seki is a badass. I need to see more of her work.
