Pretty good selection by CHFF and easily the best movie I watched during the 3-day film festival. Not surprised since this was the only “professional” film on the schedule i.e. not an indie feature. That said this is still a DTV movie that will likely show up on NWI some day. Also didn’t realize that this film has been in production for several years possibly going back to 2007!! A post I found from 2009 indicates as much with stills of Bai Ling. So this movie is at least 5 years old. No wonder Bai Ling looks so damn amazing.
The movie is basically a SAW/CUBE mash-up in a dungeon. Not nearly as creative but adequate. The plot has six strangers kidnapped and dumped into a dungeon below the earth. The connection is that they have each killed someone in a fit of revenge or justice. Now they must work through a puzzle to escape. Pretty decent B-movie that plays all the right notes. Bai Ling is a badass. I hope whenever this is released there is a commentary because I want to know more about its long production.
