Paid my first visit to Big Cinemas (in the old Niles Golf Showcase space). Film I decided to see was 7 Khoon Maaf a.k.a. Seven Murders Forgiven (2011). Decent mystery with a few exceptional moments and borderline silly moments.
This is a very earnest and deadly serious take on a woman’s life of murdering each of her husbands. After each marriage she discovers that each man carries a flaw that makes him less than desirable and sometimes downright vile and disgusting. Her only escape is to murder them. Priyanka Chopra is very effective as this unsuspecting black widow surrounded by a capable cast of characters and villains.
Uncle Goonga, the mute ex-jockey accomplice, is easily one of the best characters I’ve seen on screen. Not much mystery in this (until the finale) but a few disturbing moments. Definitely not typical Bollywood film but still worth a look if you want something more dark with a touch of humor in your Hindi film viewing.
