Viewing Notes

Really nice to view a film that is uniquely Japanese. Being a woman and being a geisha is hard, yo. It’s really an indictment of that subculture that existed in Kyoto and Japan. But that’s the way it is and how life goes for those who chose that path. Exceptional film. Really brought back lots of memories from my visit to Kyoto and readings about the geisha lifestyle.

This was the first film I watched from my new Kenji Mizoguchi BD boxset. Really looking forward to digging into these.
