Kicking off my long-planned Kurosawa week with the sequel to his Sanshiro Sugata film. Not quite as good as that one this is still a fine movie where Kurosawa originates the first UFC (Judo vs Boxing vs Jujitsu vs Karate). The final fight is a bit dull but the drama that follows with the Higaki brothers is excellent. Genzaburo is delightfully psychotic just wish he was given a little more action.
The one thing that holds this back is that there is no way a boxer would beat jujitsu in the ring. No way. Unless that guy really didn’t know jujitsu, which I suppose is possible. Anyways, Susumu Fujita is awesome as always.
