Viewing Notes

I’ll just start by saying that I like this movie. Of course it pales in comparison to Park Chan-wook 2003 film but I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be nearly as good. But this movie has some interesting twists with the material even if they aren’t always as effective. Also for all the attempts at retaining some of the violence and weirdness this one pulls some punches. Sure, it’s still fucked up but never really feels fucked up.

Brolin is good here but I really love Sharlto Copley. I love even more that he choses to portray such eccentric oddball characters. I adore Elizabeth Olsen but she’s simply an ornament in this. Sam Jackson I could do without. Send him on vacation for a year so he don’t have to see him turn up in these small supporting roles.

Cornball movie but still very watchable. Really wonder how I’d feel about it if I had no reference to the previous movie.
