I’m such an asshole. I’ve owned this DVD for years. YEARS. And only now decided to watch it. WTF is wrong with me? This stars Meiko Kaji in the titular role that really put her on the map. And she is beautiful and amazing and incredible as Nami. Simply stunning.
Damn damn damn.
I hate myself for not watching this sooner. So many perfect shots. I did not realize that this was Shunya Ito’s very first feature film. Holy shit what a great piece directorial work he pulled off in his first time behind the camera. Colors, composition, angles. I’d love to see this on the big screen if a print even exists. They really need to put all the films into a blu-ray package with tons of extras. I’d pay good money for that.
