Overview

Kris Kringle, seemingly the embodiment of Santa Claus, is asked to portray the jolly old fellow at Macy’s following his performance in the Thanksgiving Day parade. His portrayal is so complete that many begin to question if he truly is Santa Claus, while others question his sanity.  Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation in 2009.

Viewing Notes

Was a no brainer for my Childhood Movies Project and perfect time to view this only a few days before Christmas. Can’t remember the last time I viewed this but I watched it a lot when I was a kid. Not sure if I ever picked up on the commercialism and slimy big business retail aspect of the movie (it’s been so long) but that is really what makes this movie pop for me. Not sure how this was received at the time but a bold move by Macy’s.  Wish we saw more of this sentiment these days.

The blu-ray looks terrific. I’ll have to check out the remake now.
