Viewing Notes

Holy shit. I haven’t seen this since opening night back in 2002? Damn. This is an incredible movie. Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey machismo dripping from the screen. And dragons!! Yes, I enjoyed the movie when it was released but viewing it now is otherworldly. Also Gerald Butler is in this?? What happened to Izabella Scorupco? She’s terrific.

Of course the CG doesn’t hold up but still ain’t all that bad for a 12 year old movie. I’m shocked they didn’t try to sequelize this movie because it’s fucking great. And considering how isolated it is with this remote group outside of London, they could have done a sequel set somewhere entirely different. I’m sad thinking about it.

But really this is about Bale/McConaughey. They drive this story and no matter how absurd it is they make it believable. I love them in this movie. Don’t be like me and wait 12 years to revisit.
