Directed by Takashi Miike

Crime | Mystery | Action

Overview

The story in “Silver” is about a female wrestler who is really an undercover agent. Disguised as a wrestling warrior, heroine Jun Shirogane (Atsuko Sakuraba) goes after the gang that killed her family in Takashi Miike’s action-packed thriller. Aided by secret service colleague Yusuke Minamida (Kenji Haga), Jun goes undercover as Silver, a formidable fighter in the professional women’s wrestling circuit. But Jun’s success in the ring doesn’t distract her from her primary mission: exacting revenge on the Paradise gang.

Viewing Notes

It’s like someone watched several Miike movies during film school and then made their own SOV film for their final grade.

Or just Miike circa 1999.

So weird so strange yet so tame in comparison. Hate the score for this which also sounds like a student film. Intriguing overall but not a very good movie. Wild that Miike made Audition right after this. Atsuko Sakuraba does make for a nice lead albeit unskilled in acting but I think that works for the role.

Also strange that it ends yet really doesn’t end as if this is just part 1 of a larger story that never materialized.
