Viewing Notes

Interesting live action adaptation of the Monkey Punch manga. I’m so familiar with the animated versions that this barely feels like a Lupin movie as the characters are so far removed from their animated counterparts. Maybe it’s that the action and comedy doesn’t translate as well into live action. Feels more like a spoof. Not a bad movie, however, with plenty of slapstick moments and fun actors. Eiko Ezaki is particularly cute as Fujiko. Not one I’d revisit but still mostly enjoyable esp. for the 70s time period fashion and design.
