Viewing Notes

Solid comedy adventure fantasy with Mifune steering the ship, so to speak. He’s the good pirate solely looking for adventure and stumbles right into one involving a princess, black pirates, a wizard and a witch. Besides Mifune, this has the trifecta of Mie Hama, Kumi Mizuno, and Akiko Wakabayashi (Bond girls and Godzilla alum). Even Takashi Shimura lands a cameo as the ailing King. After viewing this it saddens me that Mifune never lent his abilities for a Godzilla film. There must be a reason (I’m guess budget/finances).

All and all this is a fun albeit slight adventure flick with a good cast. Glad to own it but it could be amazing in HD with extra features.
