Viewing Notes

Had to attend this NWCFS screening since it appears it may be the last film to be shown at The Patio Theater for the foreseeable future. Sad story. Glad I went because it was a great turnout for a great film. Super snappy dialogue and totally melodramatic product of its time. The kind of film that wouldn’t be made today. Ann Dvorak is wonderful as the cheeky woman on the run and a victim of her own whims.

Christina Rice, a Dvorak biographer, was on hand to intro the movie and provide a Q&A. Fun to hear the stories as well as all the Chicago references in the movie. Definitely one worth seeking out.

Here’s the blurb from the NWCFS page:

“As you’ve probably heard, the Patio Theater will be shutting down for the foreseeable future due to unsustainable operating costs. The Strange Love of Molly Louvain will be the final screening at the Patio.  If you’ve hesitated about joining us for a show at the Patio or you know folks who’ve waffled on making the trek, this is it!”

Very sad to lose yet another historic theater in Chicago.
