Viewing Notes

Amazing what time and perspective and knowledge and other things will do to your opinion. Or in this case, my opinion. Despite yet another reboot in the Millennium series (the 4th in the row for those keeping score). Was never crazy about any of the MechaGodzilla films beyond the Showa era. I’ve changed my tune in recent years.

This one drops the alien origin for MechaGodzilla making it a human creation using the DNA from the original ‘54 Godzilla bones (this is *only* continuity). Since there is really no logical or scientific reason for using the bones, they added this plot device to create the conflict that is more than just a straight-ahead battle between G and MechaG.

I like Yumiko Shaku as the heroine. She doesn’t get to be quite as badass here as she was in Princess Blade but it’s a nice change from the previous female leads. Also glad they brought back the G2000 suit but with the slightly smaller snout, which is fierce.

Pretty sure GDT was influenced by this one for PacRim from the heroine, the uniforms and mech versus kaiju action.
