Viewing Notes

Probably been 12 years since I’ve seen this and first time in Cantonese, which is weird because the English actors are dubbed in Cantonese. Forgot a lot of this film including the entire Street Fighter video game sequence. Just remembered it being super goofy. It is. Very much so. However it is a live action comic book (based on the manga). Accepting that, this movie is quite entertaining and it looks like they are having fun making the movie.

Most of Jackie’s stunts are mainly in his fighting segments and less in big setpieces. Actually the biggest setpiece is a skateboarding sequence but he has a stunt double that can actually do the tricks. The fighting segments are pretty damn good esp. the final battle.

Fun supporting cast too. Completely lost on my first viewing of this is that Richard Norton and Gary Daniels are the villains. Gary is looking good too. All the lead women are great. Kinda shocking how violent this is, for an action comedy, in that so many dudes are mowed down by gunfire. It’s like, “ha ha, we’re killing loads of guys here isn’t this hilarious!” Weird.
