Viewing Notes

Another film from my childhood films project, a deep cut as I really only remember being completely terrified of idea that a sniper could cause so much mass hysteria at a sporting event, in this case the Super Bowl. Totally a product of its time when “disaster” movies were the thing but I cannot even fathom a movie like this being made today. I’m sure someone could do it but it would be ballsy as fuck.

Not surprised that these are “fake” teams as I couldn’t imagine the NFL lending the rights to use real teams. Also weird is that for the TV version they filmed an extra hour of material to give a “reason” for the sniper (a distraction for an art heist taking place at the same time). I guess this original version was just too brutal in that it’s really just a psychopath killing people.

Can’t call this a great film but I give it points for just existing and portraying how it would go down (although I think they could’ve taken out the sniper earlier if they wanted to). Also I don’t believe that sniper would able to fire off that many rounds in the end assuming that’s a true sniper rifle/bolt action. It fires like an automatic.

Great cast with Heston and Cassavetes among others. Does make you respect the tight security at big events these days.
