Viewing Notes

One of the more disappointing movies I’ve seen this year. Definitely a case where the typical lengthy runtime for SoKo films does this one no good. A lot of padding for a very so-so story made worse by the international flavor (US, HK, South Korean, some Latin guys). In the movie people actually say dialogue to describe what you already are watching onscreen. Example: the police activate a EMP type device to cut all power and radio / cell signals in hopes of deactivating a bomb. You watch them do this then witness everything shutting down, monitors, phones, etc. Then one character explains exactly what happened. UGH.

And really that entire sequence makes no sense because some things shut down like security cams and phones yet a whole array of other things continue to work. It’s so stupid. Hearing the stilted English dialogue flip back and forth to Korean or Spanish is also distracting mainly because the English dialogue is so corny.

The central story is good but everything around it is so terrible. By the time the real action kicks in after an hour of tedious build-up it just feels forced like “oh now we need some cool action beats.” And really they aren’t even that good.

I like the two leads but they aren’t enough to save a bad screenplay and shoddy directing. I do not recommend this movie.
