Viewing Notes

Wow. Rare for a movie to exceed the hype and praise but this one managed to do that. Breathtaking and stunning scenes and sequences. I love that I did not know where this story was going. Each train car provides a new surprise like its own chapter in this story. Also works as a mystery yet doesn’t give up all the details leaving the viewer to fill in all the blanks. Definitely a movie I want to see again… preferably on the big screen again if possible.

My LB review: A bullet into my top ten for 2014. That said, I’m not about to heap tons of praise on this film. Sure, it’s very good and does its job conveying classism within the futuristic constructs of the train. Pretty simple stuff elevated by excellent camera work, good characters and even greater actors who know how to chew each frame and blow the occasional bubble. Or in this case, a shoe. This is a fun, ahem, ride that does many things well in addition to being a terrific big screen movie with beautiful setpieces. Also a pretty great Captain America story if you want to view it through that lens.
