Gamera escapes from his rocket enclosure and makes his way back to Earth as a giant opal from New Guinea is brought back to Japan. The opal is discovered to have been an egg that births a new monster called Barugon. The creature attacks the city of Osaka by emitting a destructive rainbow ray from his back, along with a freezing spray capable of incapacitating Gamera.

Third feature for kick off day at G-Fest XXI. Not sure if I have seen this one prior to this (my Gamera memory is not so good). Overall a pretty good flick with a good conflict between the characters that sets things in motion and keeps them going. The “Rear-View Mirror Strategy” is pretty awesome. Barugon is rather formidable for looking so damn silly. Would love to see an update of that monster versus the modern Gamera.
